Finding Business in Pleasure

I started touring right out of high school with multiple bands, including Time & Distance and Westland. We were fortunate enough to spend time on the Vans Warped Tour, open for blink-182, and multiple overseas tours including playing for the US troops in Kuwait, Qatar and Bahrain. In each one of those bands, I always found myself interested in the business operation and would either manage the behind the scenes goings on or would assist our dedicated managers.

While I still tour (never giving up that passion and dream!) I found that I also have a good ear for discovering new music, which led me to learning more with a few different internships including Laffitte management group (One Republic, Sum41, Good Charlotte) and a short stint at Fearless Records.

Shortly after, I was brought in as A&R / Talent Scout at The A&R Radar and I also host the Undiscovered Sound for Idobi Radio, the internet’s number one alternative and pop-punk station!

Having the experience of being on the road at such a young age opened my eyes to a lot of the BS that goes on behind the scenes. I’m glad I was able to transition into the business side of things to help out these new talented bands, being there myself at one point. It’s a really good feeling to be at the point where I can discover and show the world all these great new bands via Idobi!

Host and Creator of The Undiscovered Sound, Jeff Motekaitis has spent over ten years as a touring musician, manager and A+R Rep. As the grandchild of conductor James Clark, music has always been a big part of Motekaitis’ life.

Listen to Jeff unearth some of the brightest future talent in alternative music, Wednesday nights at 6pm ET on Idobi Radio.
