GUEST BLOG: Clepto Goes Punk Rock Bowling

Punk Rock Bowling FlyerWhen we got the email that we were set to play Punk Rock Bowling this year we all collectively shat ourselves. Getting to play at THE punk rock convention is going to be something that we remember forever. When we started Clepto stuff like Punk Rock Bowling was one of those things that  we could only dream being a part of, and it’s unreal that it became a reality! More than that is the honor to play with bands that have been inspiring us to do what we do for years now: NOFX, Leftover Crack, Descendants, Good Riddance, The Dwarves, SNFU, Face to Face, Angelic Upstarts, Anti-Nowhere League…. It’s been a great weekend for music.

Bands aside the people have been really cool. Everyone is here to have a good time and when you throw thousands of punks right into the middle of downtown Vegas; the energy is nuts. And drunken! The pool, jacuzzi, streets, casinos are full of Liberty Spikes, Mohawks, Ladyhawks and frightened old people. It’s awesome to watch. I’ve seen a guy run full speed outta the Descendants pit and puke all over the parking lot, a big dude passed out and crammed into the tiniest couch right outside the elevator lobby, the guitar player for Cerebral Ballzy getting handcuffed, and a drone with a go pro attached go down into the pit never to be seen again during the Adicts (that thing was probably really expensive though, I really hope it got returned). The pool closed twice; once for glass, the next for poop (at least that’s what I heard) and entire families out on a punk rock vacation. Does it really get any better than that? Looking around at thousands of people young and old brave sweltering heat of over 100 degrees for the love of punk rock music is a damn fine thing to behold.
I guess what I’m trying to say is, if you’re a punk fan, and have never been to the Punk Rock Bowling and Music festival, stop it. Stop it right now. You’ll have an an amazing time coasting on the same buzz day and night, avoiding as much sleep as possible in the fear of missing something insane, and by the time you’re too tired and hungover to continue partying another second, you’ll be heading home realizing that you didn’t even do half of the stuff there is to offer on this glorious weekend.
We’d all like to say thanks so very much to the Stern brothers, Sals Photos, all of our friends who bought tickets and came out to support, all of the Punk Rock Bowling staff, stage and sound crew, Bad Cop Bad Cop, and all the people!!!! Oh, and thank you guys at Infectious Magazine for letting us post our thoughts!

In a smelly, sweaty garage in Riyadh, Clepto was born. In the band’s infancy, all four members of Clepto moved to Canada where they would record their first album, ‘Handmade,’ in 2005. In 2010, Clepto moved into a van and began a DIY tour of the US which lasted a year and three months. Before long Clepto founded their own record label and media company, Olystis Music and Productions in Los Angeles where they released their fourth record “Kebab: Live off the Grill,” as well as a compilation album entitled “Get Fucked Let’s Rock” which was a collaboration of more than 20 bands Clepto met while touring. Six months after the opening of their studio, Clepto flew over the pond for their first tour of Europe, which lasted six months across nine European Countries. Since then Clepto has returned to Los Angeles to work on their 5th Record “The Cold Unending March of Progress”. Clepto blends punk, thrash metal, and Mediterranean melodies for a sound that is truly their own. Their shows are high energy and their songs are powerful. You can purchase a CD or buy concert tickets here.
