Infectious Magazine chats with Night Verses to discuss their current tour with Wilson, DIY marketing, and their recent signing with Easy Killer Records. Check it out after the jump and buy concert tickets for upcoming dates here!
Infectious Magazine: Thank you for taking the time to speak with me. How are you?
Night Verses: I’m very well… thank you for asking.
IM: You’re currently on tour with Wilson! How has it been going?
Night Verses: It’s been great. They’re a different type of band than we are. They give off a different type of vibe and it works very well with us. They’re also very talented players and great dudes. It’s always amazing being on tour with people you respect and get along with.
IM: For those that have never seen you live and might be heading out on future tour dates, what should they expect?
Night Verses: Expect four humans playing music with every ounce of energy from their mind, body and spirit.
IM: You’ve talked about the balance of social media and DIY ethics such as hitting the pavement, handing out flyers, etc. What do you think are some of the biggest mistakes bands make in those areas?
Night Verses: It’s hard for me to comment on this because every band goes through mistakes on what they can do better or different in the future. However, social media goes through its phases of being incredibly useful and incredibly useless. You just always have to put in whatever groundwork you can… no matter where it comes from.
IM: On the flip side, what do you think are some of the greatest things bands can both do and accomplish via social media and hitting the pavement?
Night Verses: There’s no downside to working hard and getting your name out but hitting the pavement is always the way to get the most results. Touring is everything…
IM: You went through some trial and tribulation before deciding on Easy Killer Records. What were some of the most important things you learned both about labels and yourselves as a band while searching?
Night Verses: Just to be patient and remember nothing is more important than your art and creating what you create with your family around you. I’ve come from ten long years of touring ups and downs and I’m finally fully aware of where I am and what my position is. This band is a new unit and we understand that nothing comes easy, whether it’s a label, a tour, a record. You work for those moments and take nothing for granted.
IM: What do you want to see out of today’s music culture?
Night Verses: I don’t focus on things like that. I have the bands and artists I love, I hold them very close and I try to be the best that I can be at what I do. This band is who we are because we love the music that shaped us. It’s a very different time in music but everything goes through changes. We don’t dwell on what it is or what it could be. We write and play because we love it and whatever shapes will shape.
IM: What’s in the future for Night Verses?
Night Verses: Constant touring and creating…
IM: Is there anything else you’d like to add?
Night Verses: Our debut record, Lift Your Existence, comes out in June. You can download our EP for free at www.nightverses.com
