pussy riotFor Maria Alekhina of the female punk band Pussy Riot, hunger is no game. She was hospitalized on the 7th day of her hunger strike which she describes as a persecution campaign against her.

Alekhina and her bandmates were arrested last year for “hooliganism motivated by religious hatred” for an impromptu punk protest against Vladimir Putin in Moscow’s main cathedral. The members were given two year sentences. Alekhina was set to attend her parole hearing last week in hopes of an early release, like bandmate Samutsevich who was released on appeal. However Alekhina was denied from barred from attending her own parole hearing. It was this that prompted her hunger strike that has lasted into this week.
