LIVE/PHOTO REVIEW: Charming Liars, Sacramento, CA

Charming LiarsSacramento has a new-ish venue called Ace of Spades, just on the outskirts of the downtown, state capital. Set among both residential and commercial buildings, this club was the site of the L.A. band Charming Liars‘ support set to Night Riots and veteran act Blaqk Audio last Saturday night. As I stood in line for will call I overheard many show-goers asking each other if they knew of the opening band, Charming Liars. Answers came as shrugs in the negative. After the band took to the stage, though, much of that ended for myself and the others.

This indie-rock trio has played a number of gigs, starting back in 2005 in their hometown of London, England. Since then, they’ve gone from recording their first EP on a simple 4-track, to working with world-class music producers Bob Rock and John Fields. On stage this night they burned seamlessly through their nearly 40 minute set. The crowd seemed to enjoy their set, which really showed off how far they’ve come.

The sold out show listened and rocked to songs the lads recorded over the last 4 years. Taking songs from their first EP release Delete. Repeat they opened with “Closer”, “Naked” and “Cruel”. Their soon-to-be released EP 12:31 AM served as the second part of the set which included “Burn”, “Outta My Head”, “Wild”, “Soul”, and “Pain From You”.

Do yourself a favor and check these guys out when they come around to a venue near you. They are currently on tour across the U.S., heading up to Washington and across the country to New York, then back to Colorado. To see Charming Liars live you can get tickets here.
