Hey! My name is Carina, I’m 21, and I’ve been with Infectious as a social media intern since May.
Music has always been a part of my life. I was in choirs when I was younger, and I took up the guitar and piano into my teens. I’ve always been a little restless, so channeling my energy into something creative just felt like a given.
Though my taste in music is pretty poppy, I often go through music phases where I listen to exclusively acoustic artists, or only ’80s music, and so on. I like to say that I’ll listen to pretty much anything once, with very few exceptions.
Here are some of the songs that I love or have loved. Hope you enjoy!
1. “Since U Been Gone” – Butch Walker
I have been to many concerts in my lifetime, and to this day, I can’t think of an artist cover that sticks out as much as Butch Walker’s cover of Since U Been Gone. It may be confirmation bias, or it might be that he really was that awesome live, but I guess I’ll just have to see him live again to find out.
2. “One Last Song” – Josiah Leming
I’ve been a fan of Josiah’s since his short-lived stint on American Idol, and I’ve been following his career faithfully ever since. He’s also one of the first artists I interviewed, and an artist that I tend to write about the most when given that freedom. This song has touched my life in a way that I can’t even begin to explain, and rarely fails to move me to tears.
3. “Sleeping Sickness” – City and Colour
When I was 14, I became obsessed with Dallas Green and his solo project, City and Colour. This was one of the first songs I learned on guitar, and is one of the few songs that I can play from memory.
4. “The Only Reason” – 5 Seconds of Summer
Much to my little sister’s amusement (and horror), I recently got into 5 Seconds of Summer. “The Only Reason” was the first song of theirs that I listened to that wasn’t “She Looks So Perfect,” and I’ve been a fan ever since.
5. “Always Be My Baby” – Mariah Carey
Mariah Carey will always hold a special place in my heart. My parents played a lot of her music when I was younger, and this song will always be one of my favorites.
6. “Addicted” – Simple Plan
Years before Fall Out Boy and My Chemical Romance ever came onto my radar, I was a huge Simple Plan fan. Simple Plan was one of the first non-boy bands I started listening to on my own, and the first band that I saw live.
7. “Conspiracy” – Paramore
“Conspiracy” was the song that got me into Paramore. I heard it on someone’s Myspace and that was it for me. They’ve grown a lot as a band, but this is still my favorite song by them.
