1. “Sweater Weather” – The Neighbourhood
This band is HUGE right now and it shouldn’t be a surprise that this song is the first on the playlist. This track is sexy and gives off the perfect fall vibes. Nothing is better than snuggling nice and close to someone to take away the chills of autumn and the boys of The Neighbourhood are so inviting with this song.
2. “Skinny Love” – Bon Iver
I feel like acoustic songs just exude the feeling of fall, this song especially. “Skinny Love” is about making new love last, and fall always tests those new romances that blossomed in the summer. So embrace that new love in your life and take some advice from Bon Iver to help make it last.
3. “Grand Theft Autumn/Where Is Your Boy” – Fall Out Boy
This song and artist both include the words “autumn” and “fall.” I really had no choice with this one.
4. “Summer Skin” – Death Cab For Cutie
This is another song about summer love, but this one shows that maybe the romance wasn’t meant to last. There’s a struggle in making a summer love work, especially when you delve a little deeper into the person you are with.
5. “Stolen” – Dashboard Confessional
I think the only people who don’t love this song are those who have never heard it, which is probably like 4 or 5 people at most. I love this song because, unlike “Summer Skin,” this one is all about how infatuated you can be with someone at the end of summer. It’s beautiful and it fits the fall season perfectly with how soft and serious the lyrics and instrumentals are. Also, Olivia Wilde is in the video and I can’t think of anyone who would complain about that.
6. “Autumn” – Sparks The Rescue
This is easily the most upbeat song on this playlist. One thing people complain about the most in the fall is how much they miss summer, and this song is about a girl who is reminiscent of the summertime, even though her actions can be very frustrating.
7. “Hoodie Weather” – The Wonder Years
I could have easily made a fall playlist comprised of nothing but songs by The Wonder Years. Yes, it would have been a 10-song compilation of various versions of this track, but whatever. But in all seriousness, I love this song so much that it actually hurts. This song is the perfect combination of angst and hopefulness, a very common theme with The Wonder Years.
8. “Home For Fall” (Acoustic) – Real Friends
This song is one that I didn’t know prior to my research for this playlist. All I knew going into its creation was I needed to include a track by Real Friends. This song, not only because of its title, suited the theme I was trying to convey with this playlist perfectly.
9. “Sex” (Acoustic) – The 1975
At first, I didn’t think this song could work for this playlist, but surprisingly it does. And I think it’s because it is the acoustic version of the song. It’s so melancholy and gives off a completely different vibe from the full band version. I can easily see myself curling up on the couch listening to this song while sipping on a pumpkin spice drink. (And yes, I said the “p” word! Did you really think you’d get through this playlist without seeing it?)
10. “Forever Halloween” – The Maine
I debated for quite sometime about including this song. I know (for obvious reasons) it probably works better for a Halloween playlist, but it just works so perfectly as a closer to this playlist. We tend to get down on ourselves in the fall, with school beginning again and we’re coming off the high from summer, and this song just gives you that little push to be happy. Every time I hear this song I feel like I can conquer the world. Even though it has a spooky feel, this song definitely is a confidence booster.
