Today, the San Francisco Bay Guardian reported that Arturo Vega, creator of the famous Ramones crest (pictured), passed away at age 65 this morning. The cause of his death is unknown at the moment.
In addition to providing creative design for the band, Vega also joined the Ramones in the studio for the recording of their first album and owned the loft that Joey and DeeDee Ramone called home from 1975-1977.
“Arturo was totally enamored with the Ramones, and he invested much of his time doing whatever he could to help them, artistically or otherwise. Though they didn’t pay him, he continued to develop new designs for flyers, posters, banners, backdrops, and later, T-shirts.”
