Nashville indie rocker trio Daddy Issues released a new song titled “I’m Not,” which was originally premiered on NPR.
The band, which consists of singer/guitarist Jenna Moynihan, drummer Emily Maxwell and bassist Jenna Mitchell, has a grungey pop sound that sounds like something that would be featured on the soundtrack for Disney Channel’s Phil of the Future back in the day.
“As a survivor of childhood sexual abuse, I spent a long time going through every reason why it had to have been my fault, until I finally started to come to grips with the fact that it wasn’t, which wasn’t until very recently,” Maxwell wrote in an email to NPR music.
The song is essentially about feeling like your experiences are invalid, and is off the band’s upcoming album Deep Dream, which is scheduled to release on May 19 through Infinity Cat. To hear more from the trio, you can purchase a CD here.
