Interview: The Menzingers

(Photo credit: CharlesWrzesniewski) The Menzingers have it going on. Their last release, After the Party is one of my favorite new albums (and I’m not alone in that—it’s been highly regarded as one of the band’s best releases), and they’re currently on tour with Frank Turner and Lucero. Before they hit the road with Frank Turner and co. they made a stop at Boston Calling to play alongside weekend headliners The National, Alvvays, Eminem, The Killers, and more, which is where we caught up with them to discuss their most recent release,…

Boston Calling Day 3 Highlights: Alvvays and Hecklers in the Comedy Arena

When I arrive at Boston Calling for Day 3, it’s already started drizzling. I put up my hood, zip up my jacket, and make my way from the Harvard Square T stop to the final day of Boston Calling 2018. It’s cold, it’s wet, and my body is tired from 2 days of festival-ing, but it’s the kind of tired that gives you energy and keeps you going back for more. It’s the kind of tired that tells you it’s been an unforgettable weekend. As I’m entering the gates of…

Boston Calling Day 2 Highlights: St. Vincent, The Menzingers, Comedy

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. One of my favorite things about festivals is the ability to not only see so many of your favorite bands in one setting, but to discover new favorites along the way. Every Boston Calling I come across a band that has either never been on my radar, or who I knew about and simply never made the time to get to know. At the first Boston Calling that was Marina and the Diamonds. Another year it was Bat For Lashes. This…

Boston Calling Day 1 Review: The Killers, The National, Pussy Riot, & More

It’s already 85 degrees as I make my way from the Harvard T stop through the crowds of festival goers, and begin the 15 minute walk through Harvard Square, over the Anderson Memorial Bridge, and finally arrive at the gates of the 9th Boston Calling Music Festival. It’s the festival’s second year at the Harvard Athletic Complex, and it already feels like many of the kinks from last year have been worked out. As I make my way from the pierogis to the cookie dough (because you know, research) and…

REVIEW: Boston Calling Makes Debut at Harvard Athletic Complex

In its inaugural kickoff at Harvard’s Athletic Complex, Boston Calling has gone from Boston’s best known little festival to a massive event. This year’s festivities took on a new life and a totally new vibe due to the location switch—which is what we’ll be focusing on for the majority of the review. Because come on, you already know the music is amazing. You’ve seen the lineup. But more on that later. Getting there The walk from Harvard Sq to the festival grounds (about 15 min to actually get inside) isn’t bad, but it…

Boston Calling Is Right Around the Corner—Which Sets Will You See?

Boston Calling is just around the corner, with the festival kicking off this Friday, May 26th and running through Sunday the 28th.
