GUEST BLOG: 5 Tips To Be Ready For An Important Performance

Performing is one of the most adrenalin-filled and self-validating things you can do. Before you start, however, it can be absolutely nerve wracking. I started rapping at 16 and it was the energy and enthusiasm that got me through each small show. Now, at 18, I’m being asked to perform for music labels, radio stations and talent scouts (one of whom discovered Coldplay) so my label management and I have come up with a few tips that have helped me make the transition. ALBUM REVIEW: New Medicine ‘Breaking the Model’

There are three things that put New Medicine near the top of my “new music I absolutely love” list. Number one: The theme behind their newest album Breaking the Model. The name says it all, and anyone who knows me will know that I’m all about stickin’ it to society. So far New Medicine is off to a good start in my book. Number two: This alternative rock quartet is from Minneapolis. It’s not that I feel obligated to like every band from good ol’ Minnesota, but when the band…

Infectious Magazine’s Summer Reading List

For many people, summer is the perfect time to kick back, relax, and read. However, finding worthwhile books about music can be extremely difficult. There are countless unauthorized biographies and boring memoirs that add nothing to what you could probably find on wikipedia. So, instead of reading some misogynistic macho garbage like Mötley Crüe’s The Dirt, here are some great books written by or about musicians from every genre you could possibly think of, that will make for some great summer reading this year. Ronnie Radke Makes Single Off Mixtape Available For Download

Ronnie Radke decided a while ago that rock music alone was not cutting it for him. The Falling In Reverse front man has released a rap mix tape, featuring prominent rock artists. Still, his rap diss targeting I See Stars seems to remain his most famous side-gig track. One of the recent mix tape’s guests is Black Veil Brides’ Andy Biersack. Radke announced the single featuring Biersack, “Asshole,” is free for download for fans. Check out a tweet from Radke after the jump. Buy concert tickets here or purchase a CD…

ALBUM REVIEW: Hedley ‘WILD LIFE’

We all know the power of first impressions. Well, my first impression of Hedley’s new album WILD LIFE is: Damn! These guys knows how to make an entrance! And that’s saying something considering I went into the album without any preconceptions. This Canadian quartet, headed by frontman Jacob Hoggard, a finalist on 2004’s season of Canadian Idol, is said to be influenced by Jimmy Eat World, but I detect some One Republic mixed in there as well. The pop-punk band’s newest album, WILD LIFE, while currently available on iTunes, is…

Anachronistic Film Soundtracks

In the article “Bad Movies With Great Soundtracks,” I mentioned something called anachronism, specifically in regards to Sofia Coppola’s Marie Antoinette. By definition in the World English Dictionary, “anachronism” is the representation of an event, person, or thing in a historical context in which it could not have occurred or existed. While it is a term that is most often used when people incorrectly reference something from a specific time period (i.e. wrongly stating an artist’s time period in which they worked), it has also been used to label a…

Musicians You Didn’t Know Could Act & Vice Versa

These days in the entertainment industry, it is amongst many celebrity’s tactics to become a double or triple threat – to be an actor, singer, and, if they’re capable, a dancer – to essentially (as I would say) take over the world. Many have already managed to do so, making the crossover from either side in equal amounts, and some surprisingly successful in doing so. From many well-known hybrid entertainers to others you never would have guessed, here are a handful of musically-inclined actors and acting-inclined musicians that will give…
