Live Review & Photos: The Shelters At The Starline, Oakland, CA

The weather and traffic battled it out for which would be worse last Thursday evening during my drive to Oakland, CA. The traffic won. Luckily I gave myself enough time to arrive, grab a bite to eat, and catch the start of the show. The Starline Social Club is a historic building dating back to 1893. Once a ballroom, it now houses a restaurant and bar downstairs, and an ample sized room upstairs. Complete with original wood floors, booth seating, another bar, and tin ceiling tiles, the vintage room was a…

INTERVIEW: VanLadyLove

Given their irresistibly intergalactic hybrid of rock and electronic music, it wouldn’t be a surprise to find out VanLadyLove actually arrived on earth from a different planet… However, it turns out the trio—Travis Van Hoff (Lead Vocals, Keys, Guitar), Steele Saldutti (Bass, Ableton), and Jordan Clark (Keys, Guitar)—call Utah home. Since their 2012 formation, a string of undeniable songs has fueled the group’s rapid rise from local prominence to national buzz. Along the way, they scored an impressive total of six high-profile placements on TLC in addition to a cameo…

TIDAL: The Music Industry’s Biggest Lie

Major modern artists all the way from Alicia Keys to Jay Z have come together to release one of the first ever artist owned music platforms… or, so they say. “Jimi Hendrix once said, that music doesn’t lie,” Alicia Keys spoke at the podium for TIDAL’s launch video, and she’s right. Music doesn’t lie, but these musicians who have come together to be a face for the type of companies they state they are against? That is a lie, perhaps one of the biggest lies we have ever seen in the…

Green Day fans, musicians, and Green Day fans that are musicians: be prepared for awesomeness. REVIEW: Kids – ‘Rich Coast’

I wish I could say there was something wrong with Rich Coast, by Kids. I wish I could say, “I am so clever; I’ve figured out how they could improve upon this, this, and this.” But I can’t. Not even a full month in, and this has to be one of the most perfect albums of 2015. Filled with theatrics, incredible imagery, and appearing to draw from the films that many have long since forgotten, Kids have created an album of quality that needs to be on everyone’s wish list/playlist/etc. for…

REVIEW: Enter Shikari – ‘The Mindsweep’

Take a look at England in 2015, and it’s quite evident that there’s a bit of unrest in the country. What, with the National Health System constantly in question, the uproar of 2014’s European elections, the vote for Scotland’s independence and having supposedly risen from the recession. Russell Brand is one of the heavily-mediated activists at the forefront, but, there don’t appear to be a great deal of musicians who take part in the same sort of political activism, as has nearly always been the case with ‘mainstream’ music due…

Enter Shikari Release New Album ‘The Mindsweep’

Enter Shikari‘s highly-anticipated fourthstudio album is out today in the US, and you can purchase a CD here (or a record, or a download, or just about anything else). The UK’s St. Albans quartet had been away writing and recording for the majority of 2014, have conjured up this masterpiece. As ever, it’s full of rage, breaks all boundaries of genre and is fuelled by highly politicised lyrics.. For those of you that haven’t had the chance to have a listen yet, you can do so through the official stream here. Believe…
