ALBUM REVIEW: Mike Llerena & the Nerve

If The Decemberists and Green Day had a baby, they would conceive Mike Llerena & the Nerves. Hailing from Gainesville, FL., the band just dropped their first full length album on June 15th. The first song, “Last Words”, sets the tone for the album – high energy, feel good, real music that instantly gets stuck in your head. Tracks like “Crossfire” and “Mr. Favorite Son,” are the perfect recipe for a crowd of fans jumping and moshing. Halfway through, we hear a sentimental side with “Saturday Night” and “A Long Winter”. There…

The Recent Reunion Resurgence & Our Nostalgia Obsession

Nostalgia is strange, and in the current hip culture of 2014 it’s even more bizarre than it used to be.  Now I don’t mean to be nostalgic about nostalgia, but there used to be a time when nostalgic things that we joyously reminisced about stayed in the past, exactly where we remembered them just as we remembered them; all perfect and cleaned up by years of misremembering—and most importantly, in the past.  But recently, we seem to have this fascination with all things ‘90s or vintage and relating to our…

SHOW REVIEW: Authority Zero Pensacola, FL

If there is one thing I’ve learned over all these years of being a music lover, it’s to never pass up an opportunity to see a good show because there is never a guarantee that you’ll have the opportunity again. That being said, when I found out that Authority Zero was going to be coming to Pensacola on a co-headlining tour with reggae pop-punkers, Ballyhoo!, I made a promise to myself that I wouldn’t miss it, even if I had already seen Authority Zero twice before. As the saying goes,…
