PHOTOS OF THE WEEK: Week #63

“Music has always been a matter of Energy to me, a question of Fuel. Sentimental people call it Inspiration, but what they really mean is Fuel. I have always needed Fuel. I am a serious consumer. On some nights I still believe that a car with the gas needle on empty can run about fifty more miles if you have the right music very loud on the radio.” – Hunter S. Thompson (American Journalist and Author) The following photos were posted between December 21-28, 2014 and are shown with the original…

Anachronistic Film Soundtracks

In the article “Bad Movies With Great Soundtracks,” I mentioned something called anachronism, specifically in regards to Sofia Coppola’s Marie Antoinette. By definition in the World English Dictionary, “anachronism” is the representation of an event, person, or thing in a historical context in which it could not have occurred or existed. While it is a term that is most often used when people incorrectly reference something from a specific time period (i.e. wrongly stating an artist’s time period in which they worked), it has also been used to label a…

Many have already managed to do so, making the crossover from either side in equal amounts, and some surprisingly successful in doing so. From many well-known hybrid entertainers to others you never would have guessed, here are a handful of musically-inclined actors and acting-inclined musicians that will give…

GUEST BLOG: In Defense Of The Rock Duet

The first rock duet I experienced was the epic “Summer Nights,” sung by rebel-turned-romantic Danny Zuko and good-girl-gone-(eventually) bad Sandy Olsson  in the movie Grease. In my 8-year-old mind, Danny was just all right (I found Kenickie’s scrappy-thug vibe much more intriguing) and Rizzo was WAY cooler than Sandy (I’m a natural brunette…and I’m Italian). But that duet had (cue Travolta/Newton-John “oh”) something special, a dreaminess and a longing that even Rizzo’s brassy, indomitable solo couldn’t achieve.  Later, “You’re The One That I Want” had Sandy and Danny at the carnival in…
