MY FIRST TIME: Performing With A Respected Artist

I will never forget the nerves and adrenaline I got from singing with the talented and well known, Steven Tyler of Aerosmith. I was lucky enough to perform three songs with him. Before the show, he pulled me aside and said, “Sing me one of your favorite songs, right now.” I was shocked and taken off guard and couldn’t believe I hadn’t prepared for this moment.

MY FIRST TIME: Face Value

Our first split was with emo/acoustic artist, Chris Swartz, in the winter of 2015. He came to us with the idea of doing an acoustic split and we thought it would be a killer idea, being something we hadn’t done at the time. Plus there’s something warm and inviting about an acoustic song, especially in the dead cold of winter in Maryland.

MY FIRST TIME: Mike & Matt Gevaza – Continental Recording Studio

The first full length album that we recorded at Continental was the selftitled release from Brooklyn based indie rockers John Severin and the Quiet 1s. At the time we were at our gritty Van Dam Street location in LIC. Continental Recording Studio started in Greenpoint, NY in 2008, where we worked endless days and nights honing our craft. We eventually expanded to a location on Van Dam Street in Queens and eventually to our current location is just off of Vernon Boulevard in Long Island City. During the early 2010’s we were experimenting heavily with…

MY FIRST TIME: Table Talk

We’ve only been playing under this guise for about a year and a half now but in that time we’ve done two tours, four weekend runs, recorded and released a split, and recently released our first EP Table Talk. We decided early on that we were going to make an honest attempt and try to progress this band in the direction we want it to go. Writing played a huge role in advancing our passions as we really hadn’t played together for a very long time before deciding to write the record. Ryan had…

MY FIRST TIME: Commonweather

For our first self-titled EP, we were still feeling out the genre. Our previous bands were nothing like what we were trying do with Commonweather, so it was a really fun experience writing the new music. It was all very raw sounding and we definitely weren’t as “effect heavy” as we are now. We started writing it in January 2014 before we even announced we were a band, so we took our time with the release having no pressure. There’s a couple songs off of it that we still play today and they’re still some of my favorites we’ve ever written.

MY FIRST TIME: Henry Chadwick

I went about recording this EP in a fairly solitary and semi unconventional fashion. All of the ideas for the songs on the EP were conceived on an acoustic guitar. Once I had a basic song outline or feel I’d started building a demo in the computer. I would blend organic and electronic sounds, using the programs Reason and Digital Performer in conjunction. I liked doing it this way because I could build layers and change arrangement ideas with relative ease. This way, I knew if an idea was working…

MY FIRST TIME: Summer Wars

Summer Wars as a band are still somewhat early on, so to play such renowned festivals like South By South West, and So What?! Fest so soon in our career was amazing.  We are from Raleigh, NC so we drove down to Austin, Texas and played a show case on a Saturday night for our booking agency Circle Talent Agency.  It was right downtown on 6th street at a place called The Dirty Dog, it was a 500 capacity venue and it was basically sold out, absolutely the biggest show…

MY FIRST TIME: Jim Monaghan From Hoboken Hi-Fi Studios

Long before I made a living recording reggae music, I was a punk rocker.  I was also into traditional Jamaican Ska so it was only a matter of time that I would find reggae.  The first recording that I heard other than random Bob Marley and Sublime tunes was a tune called “Skinhead Revolt” by Joe the Boss.  I must note that this was recorded in 1970, long before Skinheads were racists.  They were young black and white British youths who were working class citizens that identified with the sounds…

MY FIRST TIME: Adam Moult Of Bad Cop

My first time going on tour, I never had more fun in my life. The best days of being a musician, are the first days. My first time going on tour was quite an exciting time. My band, Bad Cop, had just inked a deal with one of the most our favorite punk labels of all time, ROIR Records (MC5, Beastie Boys, Television, Bad Brains, etc.) We had only been a band for four months and played less than eight shows prior to this tour. As you could imagine,we were…

MY FIRST TIME: Jeremy Weiss (Owner – CI Records, Founder – LAUNCH Music Conference)

In our latest edition of My First Time, Jeremy Weiss (Owner of CI Records and Founder of the LAUNCH Music Conference) was kind enough to talk to Infectious Mag all about how he first started LAUNCH seven years ago and built it into the smashing success that it is today. The first LAUNCH Music Conference & Festival was conceived of in 2008, while participating as a panelist at a conference in Delaware.  My good friend and colleague, Rick Gadd, and I were chatting about how great a similar event would…
