Vinyl Sales And Streaming Dominate The Music Industry

According to a surprising report from the LA Times and Nielson’s SoundScan, the sales of vinyl records are up 40% in the year of 2013. Overall album sales, however, are down 15% and overall music consumption is down 3.3% according to the report. These numbers continue to show the increasing influence of free streaming services such as Spotify and Pandora, which are up nearly 50% since last year. iTunes Radio Released In US

Along with the recent implementation of iOS7, Apple has decided to take another huge step in providing music for us all with iTunes Radio. Currently, it is only available for US customers. Want to get it? First, you have to be an Apple customer in the States. Update your iTunes to 11.1, and the ‘Radio’ tab should automatically show up. iTunes Radio is a free service much like Pandora or Spotify. Apple Officially Announces iTunes Radio Streaming Service

The long-rumored music streaming service from Apple, originally speculated to be called iRadio, was announced today at the tech giant’s packed WWDC (WorldWide Developer’s Conference) under the official moniker of iTunes Radio.  The service appears to function almost identically to the Pandora service but with more convenience in its direct connection to the user’s iTunes account and the iTunes store.  Read more about the new service here.
