PWR BTTM Discography to be Removed by Streaming Services

The music of New York punk duo PWR BTTM will be removed from iTunes, Apple Music, Tidal, Google Play and Amazon following sexual assault allegations surrounding member Ben Hopkins.  The announcement comes after an earlier statement from the group’s label Polyvinyl,  who removed PWR BTTM from their roster immediately after sexual assault reports emerged. “In keeping with this philosophy, we want to let everyone know that we are ceasing to sell and distribute PWR BTTM’s music,” posted Polyvinyl on their website. PWR BTTM has also cancelled all dates of what was…

TIDAL: The Music Industry’s Biggest Lie

Major modern artists all the way from Alicia Keys to Jay Z have come together to release one of the first ever artist owned music platforms… or, so they say. “Jimi Hendrix once said, that music doesn’t lie,” Alicia Keys spoke at the podium for TIDAL’s launch video, and she’s right. Music doesn’t lie, but these musicians who have come together to be a face for the type of companies they state they are against? That is a lie, perhaps one of the biggest lies we have ever seen in the…

Vinyl Sales And Streaming Dominate The Music Industry

According to a surprising report from the LA Times and Nielson’s SoundScan, the sales of vinyl records are up 40% in the year of 2013. Overall album sales, however, are down 15% and overall music consumption is down 3.3% according to the report. These numbers continue to show the increasing influence of free streaming services such as Spotify and Pandora, which are up nearly 50% since last year. Katy Perry’s “Dark Horse” is currently the most streamed song with 65 million hits, followed by John Legend’s “All of Me” with 59.4…

Amazon Unveils Free Music Service For Prime Subscribers

Online shopping juggernauts, Amazon, have launched Amazon Music, a new streaming service available for free to all Amazon Prime members. Amazon already had a foot in the door when it comes to music thanks to their Amazon MP3 service, however, the new upgrade is more of a Spotify-type service. While the new Amazon Music is pretty cool, it’ll take a little while for it to catch on, especially since Universal artists (like blink 182) are nowhere to be found in the catalog, but Amazon have announced that this is just…

ALBUM REVIEW: Glass Animals ‘ZABA’

On June 9th, English band Glass Animals will release their debut album, ZABA, for the world to hear. The unique sound that Glass Animals encompasses – said to be both indie rock and trip hop – is something I find incredibly refreshing, as well as one that is quite challenging to put into words (but don’t worry, I’ll try my best!). With fantastic beats and intriguing lyrics to boot, I absolutely encourage everyone to give Glass Animals’ ZABA a listen. Please follow and like us:
