ALBUM REVIEW: Zach E. West ’28 Years Later’

I write with a bit of sadness that I’m reviewing 28 Years Later, quite possibly the final album Zach E. West has created. For almost two years he has worked on this album, and I must say it is a work of art that must have paid off for him. He has a talent for expressing himself in ways that we all can understand and resonate with – not to mention he continues producing music that is absolutely mind-blowing to the average listener. I say this because, it’s not every…

ALBUM REVIEW: Hedley ‘WILD LIFE’

We all know the power of first impressions. Well, my first impression of Hedley’s new album WILD LIFE is: Damn! These guys knows how to make an entrance! And that’s saying something considering I went into the album without any preconceptions. This Canadian quartet, headed by frontman Jacob Hoggard, a finalist on 2004’s season of Canadian Idol, is said to be influenced by Jimmy Eat World, but I detect some One Republic mixed in there as well. The pop-punk band’s newest album, WILD LIFE, while currently available on iTunes, is…

The Y Axes describe their music as “drawing influence from a myriad era of popular and esoteric music to craft a fun original style” and I couldn’t agree more. This female-led indie pop…

ALBUM REVIEW: Portugal. The Man ‘Evil Friends’

It’s as if the boys of Portugal. The Man have pressed play on summer. The title track “Plastic Soldiers” is full of heavy synths and acoustic guitars and the lines, “I can’t keep my head up, no I can’t keep my head up” gets the listener really pumped up. The album segways from “Creep in a T-shirt” and into “Evil Friends”; the title track. “Evil Friends” starts off as dark, mysterious and very typical of Censored Colors, however the song takes a sharp left turn after the first minute, a…
