ALBUM REVIEW: The Technicolors – ‘Ultraviolet Disguise’ EP

There is a certain charm to bands whose music feels just a little bit out of their time, and that is exactly what Phoenix-based rock band, The Technicolors, managed to do in their five-track EP, Ultraviolet Disguise. The band weren’t so much trying to bring one specific sound to the release but instead pulled from a diverse array of influences both past and present to create something that sounds old while still having a feeling of newness. The result, which claims influence from the New Millennium’s garage rock scene and…

PLAYLIST: Alternative 4th of July

It is officially Independence Day weekend, traditionally filled with fireworks, barbecues, camping, s’mores and good-old American beer drinking. And you know what else? Country music. But …here at Infectious we aren’t always the biggest fans of that particular genre. That’s why I’ve created something special for you: a list of 12 songs to party to this weekend that are reminiscent of the country in which we live, and for the most part don’t make too many political statements (although for the sake of punk and hardcore this was a bit hard…

ALBUM REVIEW: The Starfolk

With The Starfolk’s latest self-titled album, come peaceful sounds of harmony blended in with beautiful acoustics.  This band has set the bar high with tracks like  “From above” and “Midnight Moon,” which put you in a trans of rich pop indie musical heaven.  With all the groovy vibes this band has created it’s not a shock that they have out done themselves on their second album. Personally this is the first time I’ve heard this group and I’ve been blown away from the first song on their latest album. Please…

GUEST BLOG: In Defense Of The Rock Duet

The first rock duet I experienced was the epic “Summer Nights,” sung by rebel-turned-romantic Danny Zuko and good-girl-gone-(eventually) bad Sandy Olsson  in the movie Grease. But that duet had (cue Travolta/Newton-John “oh”) something special, a dreaminess and a longing that even Rizzo’s brassy, indomitable solo couldn’t achieve.  Later, “You’re The One That I Want” had Sandy and Danny at the carnival in…
