It has been 19 weeks since a man has held the #1 spot on Billboard Hot 100 list. This is notable because it ties a record set in 2005, and one more week of “Blank Space” by Taylor Swift being on top is all that is needed to make the record complete.
“Blank Space” has been on Billboard’s Hot 100 for the last 7 weeks, since Swift’s album 1989 was released. Before then, Meghan Trainor’s “All About That Bass” and Swift’s “Shake It Off” have been reigning supreme amongst every popular hit.
Overall, women tend to dominate the Hot 100 list, but usually not for a sustained period this long. In 2005, artists including Mariah Carey, Carrie Underwood and Gwen Stefani helped set this record.
