This theme is interesting to us, and we decided to talk about our “secret weapon” and also our good friend.
All of our songs we record with Andrew Konoplev, who is an excellent sound engineer and a sound producer from Moscow. He is so important to us, that it is practically another member of REMARK. He helps us make exactly the sound that is in our head, that we don’t always know how to get.
When you are going to record your first album or you do the first recordings at all, you are very confident in your skills and in your music. But the main thing is to be able to listen to professionals. The more experience you acquire, the more doubts you have (no matter how strange it is).
When we came to him to record the first album, we thought that we would quickly record all the material and do it well. Everything turned out differently. Most of the songs were raw and unfinished. Any other person could record this non-ready material, and do something with it, get money and say goodbye. But not Andrew. He sent us back to rehearse and rehearse again and again. Play our parts again and again to the idea.
And in this idea, there is his (and now it’s ours) special feature to make everything perfect during the recording, so that we do not have to edit anything. In general, the process of recording new songs should begin with persistent rehearsals and working out the parts. Working on arrangements should be continuous, all the time while recording. This is primarily a creative process and it is not worth writing down everything mechanically.
All individual parts of different instruments should sound good in the mix, so you have to make compromises and sometimes edit the already invented parts. Andrew is always interested in a perfect final result. He does not skimp on harsh statements about your professionalism. And it keeps us in the right mood. I am very glad that we met Andrew. After all, even the best song can be spoiled by a poor arrangement. He will not allow this, so we are always calm and confident in him.
