Post something every day. Hands down.
When it comes to Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter, do EVERYTHING you can to post something every day. Anything.
A silly picture of your frontman. A thank you graphic for everyone who liked your page this month. A 15 second clip of your latest music video. A black and white photo of the drum kit. I’m literally just word vomiting!
If there’s one thing I learned this year, it’s that your band and/or your art is not just competing with other local bands on a Friday and/or Saturday night. You’re not just competing with bigger bands. You’re competing with everything that shows up as a person opens up their favorite social media app and begins to scroll.
You’re competing with cat memes, the latest show on Netflix, politically charged posts from others, etc. You really are. It’s not enough to just “do what a band is supposed to do” anymore. Find your voice and entertain you biggest
Take it one step further and check the analytics of your accounts and post at the time of day most of your fans are online. It may seem like a bit of work, but once you get in the habit of doing it, slowly but surely you’ll see results. You’ll also learn how to do do it faster, and what your fan base wants. It WILL happen. Trust me!
Get a Hootsuite account, add your social media channels, and monitor them every day. You can maintain your online presence FAST with Hootsuite. Take the time to read some blogs and watch some videos about some of these
things that may be new to you. You don’t have to know everything regarding social media. It can certainly be daunting. I definitely didn’t know it all and I still don’t. All you need is passion. That same passion you had when you began to learn your instrument. That passion you feel when you talk about your favorite band with your friends. That THING that drives you.
Subscribe to Hypebot and stay in the know on an industry that is truly
changing and evolving every day.
And interact as much as you can. Answer as many comments as possible. If someone follows you on Instagram or Twitter, follow them back. Tag your biggest fans and show them you are grateful for their support. It goes a long
way to make a fan feel special. Make your biggest fans beam with pride. Simply answering them with a comment could make their day and more. Give your fans something to enjoy, big or small, every day. You never know who’s
liking, commenting, and sharing!
