Top 5 Pop Music Videos of 2015

IMG_0205Even though it is still early in the year, multiple music videos have been released that are becomingly wildly popular. The top five pop music videos this far of 2015 are displayed below. Check out the videos and let us know what you think!

5. “Style” by Taylor Swift

“Style” is the third single off Swift’s latest album 1989. The video is beautifully done and includes various artsy shots of Taylor and her mystery man reflecting each other through pieces of glass and projections. It sounds kind of creepy, and it kind of is. I mean really, how is holding a giant shard of glass in front of your face romantic? Unless a trip to the ER sounds like a fun date. On a real note, Taylor is also wearing red lipstick the entire time, regarding the lyrics “I’ve got that red lip classic thing that you like.” You go, girl.

4. “Love Me Like You Do” by Ellie Goulding

Released in late January, “Love Me Like You Do” generated an easy 123 million views due to being released as a promotional single from the anticipated “50 Shades of Grey.” The music video reveals many clips from the movie itself, and also features a good amount of ballroom dancing…and we all know that 50 Shades is anything but a movie about dance moves. So if you’re torn between romantic dancing and erotic lip-biting, this is for you.

3. “Someone New” by Hozier

This song was just released March 2 and has well over 2 million views. This can probably be attributed to Natalie Dormer, an actress from the popular HBO series “Game of Thrones,” who is featured in the music video.  Hozier is only seen performing in shadows and silhouettes, however we definitely aren’t missing out on his entrancing voice. It would be nice to see more of him and his man bun, though. The only thing better than Hozier with a man bun is a shirtless Hozier with a man bun. Maybe he’ll consider this for his next one.

2. “Lay Me Down” by Sam Smith

Sam Smith’s voice can make anyone’s cold, dark heart feel emotion. This video is devastating, heartbreaking, and beautiful, all in just over four minutes. We all know the pain of not being able to be with someone we want, so this one hits home, whether or not you agree with the overall message. He announced that this video is something that he and the director Ryan Hope are very passionate about, and that they “decided to make a statement.” Mission accomplished! This song was also Smith’s first single, and an excellent acoustic version is available here. You’ll need a few boxes of tissues for this one.

1. “Sugar” by Maroon 5

Adam Levine in a tux? Yes, please. While the song itself is very catchy, the excitement of seeing Maroon 5 crashing weddings makes this music video all the rage. I mean, who doesn’t want a surprise visit from Maroon 5 at their wedding? They wouldn’t even have to dress up for mine. It did cause some problems when it was revealed that it was staged, but even then this is still worthy of being the best music video of the year…so far, anyway.
