There are so many beauties in music. It transcends time. It transcends age. It transcends genre. It transcends language. It also transcends religion. Fayetteville, North Carolina’s We Were Once may be a Christian rock band at heart, but this is a band and sound I would highly recommend to any alt-rock fan regardless of your religious beliefs.
We Were Once released their debut EP Piece By Piece in September 2014 and have made big waves throughout both their local rock scene and the Christian music scene, winning Rockshop’s Battle of the Bands and seeing the EP’s hit single “Safe & Sound” crack the Top 10 on Billboard’s Christian Rock chart.
2018 sees the band’s sound more refined and confident than ever before with the release of their latest single “Phoenix”. Discussing the song, Indie Vision Music called WWO’s sound “Flyleaf, Fireflight, maybe with a dash of Paramore” and I would include the dynamics of PVRIS.
On top of all that, the band has performed live with scene staples such as Emery, Norma Jean, and RED. It’s safe to say that, whether it’s Christian or mainstream, We Were Once will be playing for increasingly larger crowds and are capturing hearts from all corners of the world with their music.
