What I Would Change About The Music Industry: The Indie Vocal Sound Is Annoying

The indie vocal sound is annoying for both listeners and sound engineers, especially in live settings. I’ve heard it a million times. Everyone’s doing it. Please stop it. What is the “indie vocal sound”? It’s a heavily layered lead vocal effect. It includes digital distortion, digital delay and digital reverb. Here’s a male and female vocal example: Please follow and like us:

STREAM: Brian Kapler “Falling Apart”

Brooklyn, New York singer-songwriter, Brian Kapler, released a new single titled “Falling Apart” this week. Kapler, who previously fronted pop rock band Permanent Me, decided to focus on his own solo career following the band’s break up. The musician’s decision to do some soul searching and reinvent his sound is starting to pay off. “You got me falling apart, and in the morning you go and break my heart,” Kaper sings in the heart-wrenching song that sounds so much more developed than most solo projects.  “But the clock ran away with all of…

LIVE REVIEW: Secret Someones, Wolf Gang, And Sir Sly Ignite Los Angeles

Nirvana may not be the greatest band of all time, or deserve a spot in the Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame, but you have to admit. It’s pretty impressive when one of your favorite bands covers a legendary song. And does it right. To add a few extras as to why Brooklyn’s new found glory Secret Someones deserve the utmost respect for going balls to the walls, they covered Nirvana’s “Breed” at the El Rey in Los Angeles, Monday night. ALBUM REVIEW: Autocatalytica Self-Titled Debut LP

The Brooklyn-based “psychomaniacal, spazzgazm of progressive-math-metal-mayhem,” opens with the track “Oxygonical.” It’s a textbook thrash song. A friend studying printmaking once told me that being in a band would be “too easy” and he needed to really challenge himself with his art. His remark struck me as…
