FEATURED ARTIST: StereoKid Interview & More

There are probably many people out there who haven’t heard of StereoKid. I’m not going to say that’s anyone’s fault in particular, there are a lot of bands out there, and one can only learn about so many at a time. But if you have the chance, check out StereoKid. It’s not only cause they’re some of the most laid back and nice guys around, which they are, they’re also incredibly talented. A little about the band: made up of brothers Greg and Dan Neal, and members Roger Lambert, &…

GUEST BLOG: Tidal: So What Now?

Within a plethora of methods that we have to get music out, in a rather grandiose unveiling, Jay-Z announced Tidal. This is a streaming service that allows the consumer to stream lossless files and high-quality video for a $20 dollar fee. It’s also billed as the music service controlled by the musicians themselves, totting co-ownership from the likes of Alicia Keys, Arcade Fire, Beyonce, and Calvin Harris just to name a few. As I was viewing the press conference where many “A list” artists signed the declaration to the service,…

TIDAL: The Music Industry’s Biggest Lie

Major modern artists all the way from Alicia Keys to Jay Z have come together to release one of the first ever artist owned music platforms… or, so they say. “Jimi Hendrix once said, that music doesn’t lie,” Alicia Keys spoke at the podium for TIDAL’s launch video, and she’s right. Music doesn’t lie, but these musicians who have come together to be a face for the type of companies they state they are against? That is a lie, perhaps one of the biggest lies we have ever seen in the…

PLAYLIST: “It’s All About Vibe”

Vibe, to me, is the most intimate element of a song and recording. It is that X factor that either exists and oozes through a track or is nowhere to be found. It is that element that makes you feel the breath of the singer in your ears and allows you to almost visualize the body language of…

Bad Movies With Great Soundtracks

Have you ever seen a movie so bad you wanted to hate it, but something was holding you back and you couldn’t dislike it entirely? I have a theory on the matter: the redeemable quality that saved those movies from your hatred was the soundtrack. We all know the effect that music can have, especially on us as individuals, and I think you might agree that it includes making not-so-good movies into relatively tolerable ones. Now brace yourself, some of the films on this list may be your favorites or…

WATCH: Russian Police Choir Performs “Get Lucky” At Olympics Opening Ceremony

The Russian Police Choir, which has become rather famous for its wonderful covers of popular pop songs, made an appearance before the 2014 Winter Olympics Opening Ceremony in Sochi last night. The choir performed a spirited rendition of Daft Punk’s Grammy megahit, “Get Lucky.” You can watch the video of the performance here. The troupe, led by a competent and confident trio, were for the large part quiet, but burst into chorus halfway through to delight the audience. Some guys got super into it, others not so much. It’s pretty silly and…
