LIVE REVIEW: Glass Animals W/ Mackintosh Braun Crystal Ballroom, Portland OR

The show begins with a local Portland band, Mackintosh Braun, combining the efforts of two friends, Ian Mackintosh and Ben Braun. Their chemistry translates well onto stage. During the first half of the set, the bass overwhelms the vocals. The band seems tentative at first, likely because of the problems with sound. However, they find their zone by the second half of the set, with “Made For Us,” dancing and bantering with each other around the stage. Please follow and like us:

LIVE REVIEW: Portland’s Old Port Festival

With a larger city of the same name on the opposite end of the country and Boston being a mere two hours south, Portland, Maine hasn’t really been able to form its own identity. But Portland is blossoming into quite the little destination. Its iconic cobblestone streets, many craft beers, and unbelievably delicious local food have drawn young hipsters and elder retirees alike from around the country to come and see just what makes life so good up here. LIVE REVIEW: The 1975, Bad Suns, Sir Sly: Portland, OR

It’s over an hour before the show and the line is already halfway around the block. I walk the line and find out some people have been there for 5 hours. The Roseland Theatre is one of the only all ages venues in the city, so the age ranges from about 8th grade to some 60 year olds. Most of this line is closer to the age of the 8th graders. Please follow and like us:

LIVE REVIEW: Bombay Bicycle Club, Portland, OR

I get to the Wonder Ballroom (really more of a small club than a ballroom) over half an hour early with my friend Bernadette. This is her first concert. We are in Portland so of course it is pouring rain. About fifteen minutes before the doors open, we learn that the opening act, Royal Canoe, canceled and that someone singing for Bombay will be the opening act instead. Please follow and like us:

5 Beers, 5 Songs: The Perfect Pairing

Music and beer. There is something mystical about both of them. Savored and reviewed by connoisseurs and idiots alike, beer and music have been a plausible pair since before the dawn of man. Here is a list of my favorite beer and song combos. Please follow and like us:
