LIVE REVIEW: Oh Honey, Barcelona, The Fray: The Greek Theater LA, CA

If The Hollywood Bowl had a younger sibling, it would be The Greek Theater in Griffith Park, Los Angeles. They are architecturally and acoustically quite similar but The Greek is a quarter of the size of The Bowl and has a completely different atmosphere. When Oh Honey takes the stage, the venue is still filling in, but even so, they hold the audience’s attention. Lead singer Danielle Bouchard’s voice has an edgy clarity that is quite refreshing. I can clearly hear this during their cover of TLC’s “No Scrubs.” I…

TRACK PREMIERE: Guytano “Fall Back In Your Arms”

It’s amazing how much of an impact pain and contemplation can have on a person. Minnesota alt-rock quartet, Guytano, were inspired by those very feelings on their latest song, “Fall Back In Your Arms.” With an artistic flair reminiscent of The Killers and The Fray, the band bring their melancholic story to life with a narrative about defeat and the struggle of waiting for someone that may never come back. The piano-led ballad is complemented by a mid-tempo poppy sound that would be perfect for any college alt-rock radio station. “It…

How Losing My Dad Took Me On A New Journey

At the age of 14, I began pursuing my passion for music as a professional career. Only one year later, shortly after recording my first EP, that all changed in an instant when my father unexpectedly and suddenly passed away at the too young age of 50. It completely altered the foundation of my life and my family. Our worlds were turned upside down. I needed to step back and take much needed time off to pick up the pieces. It gave me a chance to reflect and pour myself into writing. It…

ALBUM REVIEW: A Fire With Friends ‘Ghost House’

Scranton, PA indie rock band, A Fire With Friends, have released a new album entitled Ghost House. This is their third release since forming in 2008, and Ghost House is a pretty happy medium from the band’s previous two records. Every now and then, I do enjoy listening to music that isn’t full on rock, and I found A Fire With Friends to be a band that is easy to jam out to, while still maintaining a versatile sound that suits fans of various genres. In this day and age,…
