Universal Music Group Drops Distribution Name, Modifies Executive Positions

The world’s largest music corporation, Universal Music Group (UMG), has decided to drop the distribution name of Universal Music Group Distribution (UMGD) and divide that business into separate commercial enterprise functions. This all follows the retirement of leader Jim Urie in late 2014, who took leadership back in 2000. Candace Berry will still act as the company’s executive VP of sales. However, many other job titles are shifting. While brand partnership responsibilities were previously under UMGD and Universal Music Enterprises, these two separate branches have merged together under Mike Tunnicliffe, who is the executive VP of…

Mental Health Matters: Music is My Therapy

Mental Health is always something that I’ve struggled with, coming to the forefront in my late 20s. It’s easy when you’re a kid to feel like you don’t always fit in, but as you become an adult you assume that you’ll grow out of those insecurities. For some of us, that stigma sticks until we finally face it head on, no matter the age or level of success. It’s so easy these days, with technology, to get wrapped up in the Music Industry’s expectations via social media, YouTube, Online etc….

The band’s upcoming album, Glimpse Of Self Joy is set to release on November 4 through Take This To Heart Records.  The…

TIDAL: The Music Industry’s Biggest Lie

Major modern artists all the way from Alicia Keys to Jay Z have come together to release one of the first ever artist owned music platforms… or, so they say. “Jimi Hendrix once said, that music doesn’t lie,” Alicia Keys spoke at the podium for TIDAL’s launch video, and she’s right. Music doesn’t lie, but these musicians who have come together to be a face for the type of companies they state they are against? That is a lie, perhaps one of the biggest lies we have ever seen in the…
