Fruit Smoothies with Variations
Servings: 5
1 (14-ounce) can sweetened condensed milk (not evaporated milk)
1 (8-ounce) container plain yogurt
1 small banana, sliced
1 cup fresh or frozen whole strawberries
1 (8-ounce) can crushed pineapple, packed in juice, chilled
2 tablespoons reconstituted lemon juice
1 cup ice
Halved fresh strawberries, for garnish (optional)
Chill the sweetened condensed milk first.
In a blender, combine the sweetened condensed milk, yogurt, banana, whole strawberries, pineapple with its juice, and lemon juice. Cover and blend until smooth.
With the blender running, slowly add the ice and keep blending until the mixture is smooth again.
Garnish with halved strawberries if you like, and serve right away.
Strawberry Smoothies
Skip the banana and the pineapple. Follow the rest of the recipe as written.
Peach Smoothies
Skip the strawberries and the pineapple. Add 2 cups fresh or frozen sliced peaches instead, then follow the rest of the recipe as written.
Key Lime Smoothies
Skip the strawberries, the pineapple, and the lemon juice. Add 1/3 cup Key lime juice in their place. A few drops of green food coloring will deepen the color if you want it, and a lime wedge on the rim makes a nice finishing touch.
